Friend in need?
Do you recall a friendship hug like this in your childhood as seen in this picture? it was just awesome – wasn’t it? I ask this question because sometimes we forget the true value of a friend. There is a popular quote – “A friend in need, is a friend indeed”. This quote lines up very well with the scripture – “Do unto others, as you’d like them to do unto you” as written by St. Paul. I also found an unknown quote that goes – ““You meet people who forget you. You forget people you meet. But sometimes you meet those people you can’t forget. Those are your ‘friends’ “
WOW!!!
What does this a friend in need mean? I think this means one is willing to sacrifice their priorities to put the need of another to give them some attention. Its easy to see why so many flock around someone that has the money, the gagdgets or the charisma to entertain others. However, when one is down and out and needs a hand, a small amount of your time, or even some money to help out; there is yet another opportunity to be a giver!
I do not want to sound too “preachy” as it makes me uncomfortable doing it but i like to highlight this point in that we all should try more and more to be available for a friend ….and for that matter to take it up a notch to even a neighbour. When we do that, we are told by very “reliable sources” that i trust very much that the rewards are for the giver! Why?
An awesome secret ambassador of God, St. Francis of Assissi knew when he said – “In giving, you receive” or what St. Paul says – “Love thy neighbour as thyself”….
